AWAKE VOLUNTEERING

Through volunteer activities, recognize what is not us,
what is truly us, and where our true Home is.

Volunteering at Universal Door Meditation Center is unlike volunteering anywhere else.

We do not step in only to complete a task or achieve a successful result. We take action so that what is hidden within the mind and body can appear clearly. Every responsibility, interaction, difficulty, and unexpected situation can become an opportunity to recognize ourselves, transform old patterns, and return to the Awake Source.

THE TASK BECOMES A MIRROR

Guided by the Awakened One

Awakened One Thích Diệu Thiện manifests wisdom, compassion, ingenious means, and Awake tools to help practitioners recognize what they may not yet see by themselves.

Instructions may change. Difficulties may arise. We may be asked to slow down, begin again, cooperate differently, or let go of the result we wanted. These situations are not separate from the practice. They are opportunities to wake up. The purpose is not to make us better workers; the purpose is to help us wake up.

While cooking, cleaning, gardening, welcoming guests, organizing events, or supporting media projects, we observe what arises within us.

Do we become impatient?

Do we want recognition?

Do we resist when plans change?

Are we afraid of making mistakes?

Instead of automatically following these reactions, we learn to recognize them, face them sincerely, and question the ego patterns behind them.

The outer work reveals the inner work.

Through each activity, we practice:

Recognize the Clear Mind.  What is happening in the mind and body.

Face it instead of avoiding, suppressing, or blaming.

Doubt the automatic conclusions of the ego system.

Choose to move toward the Awake Source.

Transform karma and attachment through clear action.

Liberate the limited self and the need for a particular result.
